Medicolegal Assessment FAQs
Common questions from solicitors, insurers and employers.
Who can request
an assessment?
Solicitors, insurers, employers, case managers and advocates. If you need a report for your own claim, please ask your solicitor or the organisation handling your claim to contact us.
Do I need a
GP referral?
No. Medicolegal assessments are requested by the party who needs the report, so a GP referral isn’t needed.
Are assessments
bulk billed?
No. Medicolegal assessments aren’t covered by Medicare. Our team confirms the fee before booking.
Is the assessment
treatment?
No. It’s an independent assessment for a legal or insurance matter. The psychiatrist doesn’t become the person’s treating doctor.
How long does
a report take?
We agree a timeframe with you when booking, based on the matter and the documents involved.
Can the psychiatrist give
evidence in court?
Yes, when required. Please tell us about any court or tribunal dates when you send your request.
